Here are the two Music Videos we looked at in the lecture, they are both very different styles. However have very strong tribal references, I really like the strong colours in the Kelis video and I LOVE the different textures used the video. This is defiantly my favourite video out of the two. They use here body as a canvas to create beautiful artwork.
I then went home and researched music videos that had tribal references. I found the two above; Rihanna "Where have you been" and Nicki Minaj "Pound The Alarm". These music videos are both very different, Rihannas is alot darker and does have more tribal refrences, both within the overall look of the music video and with her styling. What i really like is that her dancers have all got different types of tribal tattoos and they are not placed in the obvious places such as arms, face etc. One dancer has got the tattoos on her back and you can only see it when the dancer turns around. Rihanna herself is styled in a very tribal way too but it always has a modern twist such as the zebra print leotard she wears with the baggy harem pants. I have research the makeup artist for her shoot and it was; Kubuki. I loved the makeup and can't wait to research him.
