Timed Assessment

Final Photos

I am really pleased with my work, I followed all the instructions and from the face chart I was given I think I worked well. The face chart was clear so I was able to work confidently and I am very pleased with the final outcome, I especially like the lips and also the skin/base as I feel I've added alot of texture and depth. If I did it again I would change the eye makeup and adapt the shame, this has been a good learning process and I really enjoyed it.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Throughout this project I have learnt lots and become more open minded with my makeup and hair designs. Before this project I had some knowledge on tribal, I’ve seen photos and watched a program. But I had never known about their beliefs and why they dress as they do, but from this project I now know a lot more behind tribes and know about lots of different tribes. I have also learnt a lot of different techniques for hair and makeup and I wanted to make sure I had shown off my new techniques within my final images and I feel I have done this. I have shown off my new technique of scarification within my editorial images, and I have also shown off adding props and creating shapes within the hair, the real inspiration for my hair was when I met Seema Chopra. I had to overcome my bad habit of not liking bumps on the skin, I chose to sit and watch the video of scarification, two years ago I would of not been able to watch that video as I’m so Squamish but now I was able to watch it and then create it on the skin. Unfortunately my Scarification was not as good as I have practiced before but this is a technique I will need to work on as a makeup artist. I think the makeup and hair I chose for each look would work best for the genre I chose, in editorial the scars would show up best and the dots for the catwalk would be bold enough for everyone to see. My design development for catwalk was good because initially I wanted to do coloured dots but from my practices I could see that coloured dots would not work so I then change it to black and white and I’m very glad I did. I feel in this project I have developed my skills as both a makeup artist and a hair stylist and both of my images are what I was aiming for.

Story Board

Storyboard

Here is my storyboard, it shows all my research I have undertaken throughout this project and all the inspiration I have got for my two shoots. It shows a mix up of different tribes and different fashion images. I feel this is a true reflection of all the research I have undertaken and the images that have inspired me the most.

Final Photos from the Editorial

Final Photos

Here are my final two images for the editorial shoot, I have chosen one image that is a close up and one that shows the arm. I am pleased with the photos It has all the elements that I was wanting to it to have. I did have alot of problems with the scarification and trying to get it to look realistic and into the skin, I used the same technique of applying it that I learnt in class but I don't feel like it looks realistic. While shooting I tried apply concealer, foundation and powders but it still didn't look like it blended into the skin but this is a something i can approve on again. I think the rice on the face looks good and does look alot more realistic, I tried to make her skin tone look warm by adding a dark powder to her cheeks, I wanted to show that she had been in the sun. I also think that the slight gold on the cheeks and colour bone works well and reflects the glowing look I wanted to achieve, I found the gold supracolour hard to work with on the cheeks so I had to use aqua colour and a contour brush and this made applying it much easier. I love the gold lips this gives a more modern touch, and I think it shows that she is head of her tribe. It is a shame that in the photos you can't see alot of my plaiting work because it did look good and showed my creativity with hair. The gold on the headband ties in with the gold on the lips. I chose the gold and black earrings as this went with my whole look, i tried out all my accessories that I bought when I was shooting but they all didn't work because i had the scarification on the chest. I had to shoot in my own studio and using my own SLR camera because I had problems with model with is unfortunate because I think the scarification would of looked better in the studio but i think I did well with what I could do. I'm glad that my images show of a number of different techniques that I have learnt in my classes(scarification, plaits, hair props, supra colours).

Hair from the shoot

Photos of the hair

Here are some photos of the back of the hair from the editorial shoot. For the hair I individually plaited the hair and then added metal wiring into the plaits so that they can be manipulated to stand up and move. I then clipped the plaits into place, I still wanted to use the feather headband that i bought, once I plaits were in place the headband would not fit round the head so I solved this problem by cutting the headband and then clipping it to the head. I like the effect I have created with the plaits as it shows my plaiting technique and also my creativity with hair and creating shape within the hair. Unfortunately when I added the feather headband you can't see the plaits very well, but i think the feather headband worked with the styling and created a head of the tribe feel.

Final Face Chart&Design

Final Face Chart&Design

I have chosen design six, I have chosen this design because I think this will work best on camera and I have practiced the V shaping and the stars and they really complement each other. These  two shapes work well together because they both have sharp lines, when I tried the V shaping and the swirls together it did not look right because the V is a very sharp and neat line and the swirls are obviously a very round shape and I think these bit not work well together. I am going to do 3 shapes on the chest and 3 shapes on the back. When I practices this look having one set of string did not work well and was not bold enough so I glued 2 pieces of string together to make more of an emphasis and it looks much bolder. Also for the stars on the arm I tried just rice but this was also too little so I am going to do it with single string and split peas but for the face I am going to use rice.

Here is my final face chart, after all of the face charts I think this one is the best. You have to excuse how messy it it, this chart has been brought back and forward to different places. I got the idea of the gold lips from the beyonce shoot i researched. I also want to use gold as contouring on the cheek bones and temples. The gold supracolour is really hard to use on paper,I wanted it to be a soft line but the gold is hard to come out on paper. Also in this card the rice stars aren't really showing up but on the face I want the stars using rice to be on the top of my cheeks just under the eyes and then the gold underneath. I want the eyes to be bare and natural because from my research into tribes they do not have anything on their eyes and I want to do the same on my facechart.
