Hair from the shoot

Photos of the hair

Here are some photos of the back of the hair from the editorial shoot. For the hair I individually plaited the hair and then added metal wiring into the plaits so that they can be manipulated to stand up and move. I then clipped the plaits into place, I still wanted to use the feather headband that i bought, once I plaits were in place the headband would not fit round the head so I solved this problem by cutting the headband and then clipping it to the head. I like the effect I have created with the plaits as it shows my plaiting technique and also my creativity with hair and creating shape within the hair. Unfortunately when I added the feather headband you can't see the plaits very well, but i think the feather headband worked with the styling and created a head of the tribe feel.

Final Face Chart&Design

Final Face Chart&Design

I have chosen design six, I have chosen this design because I think this will work best on camera and I have practiced the V shaping and the stars and they really complement each other. These  two shapes work well together because they both have sharp lines, when I tried the V shaping and the swirls together it did not look right because the V is a very sharp and neat line and the swirls are obviously a very round shape and I think these bit not work well together. I am going to do 3 shapes on the chest and 3 shapes on the back. When I practices this look having one set of string did not work well and was not bold enough so I glued 2 pieces of string together to make more of an emphasis and it looks much bolder. Also for the stars on the arm I tried just rice but this was also too little so I am going to do it with single string and split peas but for the face I am going to use rice.

Here is my final face chart, after all of the face charts I think this one is the best. You have to excuse how messy it it, this chart has been brought back and forward to different places. I got the idea of the gold lips from the beyonce shoot i researched. I also want to use gold as contouring on the cheek bones and temples. The gold supracolour is really hard to use on paper,I wanted it to be a soft line but the gold is hard to come out on paper. Also in this card the rice stars aren't really showing up but on the face I want the stars using rice to be on the top of my cheeks just under the eyes and then the gold underneath. I want the eyes to be bare and natural because from my research into tribes they do not have anything on their eyes and I want to do the same on my facechart.

Accessories

Accessories for Editorial Shoot

I've gone out and bought lots of different accessories for my shoot, I won't user alot of them but I bought them to have and to work out which ones I will use or won't use.

Heres a photo of al the accessories I bought I've bought, I've tried to buy a wide range of different accessories so that I can try different look.
Here are the earrings I've bought, I think these both have a tribal feel. I wanted to buy two options one that sits on the ears and one that are drop down earrings. Even if I do not sure these at least I have them for more shoots.

Here are the two necklaces I also bought again very different styles,my favourite is the gold one on the left, I feel this one has a high fashion feel and is a strong statement piece. The necklace on the right reminds me of the colours that the Kyan People wear on their headscarfs. With this necklace I was thinking I can either wearing it long, or make it wide and have it higher on the chest and back or wrap it around twice to make it a chocker style.

Hair Accessories

Here are two different hair accessories I bought, I wanted to include feathers in my shoot because I feel this could add texture to my image and I want to add and create texture in the hair, I could do this my adding fullers earth to the hair but that would create a harsh look and I want to create a softer look and I think feathers would do this.

Material

This is the material I bought for the shoot,I haven't used animal print in my shoots yet so I thought it would be good to include it within this shoot as animals are such a strong part within tribes. I am not sure how I am going to use it yet, maybe as a scarf or make a dress out of it.

Uh Oh

After my Scarification

These photos are really bad but this was what happened after I watched it off, I really tried to wash it off but the supra colour was not coming off. Also I because I did this on me I just pulled the string off which was not a good idea because it really hurt and made my arm red for ages. Obviously I would not do this on my model, but I now need to think what to do because the supracolour was only on my skins for max 5 mins and it's stained my skin and I would not want to do this on my model and I if I was to do this on a real catwalk I would get in a lot of trouble if I left the black mark on the model skin, time to think!!

Scarification Attempt 2

Attempt 2

Here are the materials I used to practice my scarification, I went for materials that would have a good rise on the skin so I used:
  • Rice
  • Dried Onions
  • String
  • Pasta
  • PVA Glue

Here are my attempts using dried onions, I soaked them in PVA glue and then placed them on my arm. The photo on the right is of me with my arm up i'm just checking that the onions actually stayed on when I moved, I want to do scarification for my catwalk look so I need to make sure it stays on when moving.

Here is a really bad photo of when I coloured on top of it, I used my concelar pallet, foundations and powder. What i need to remember is the make sure the rest of the area is clean and the pva doesn't dry around my skin. I think on the catwalk it should look realistic, i just need to practice covering it and making sure it blends into the skin.

I then tried the same technique with strong, I chose to do a spiral and I dried it with a hair dryer to make  the drying process quicker.
Heres the photo after i applied the foundations, it's a really bad photo but the string did actually cover really well. I like the spiral shape and how it's not clean and perfect circular shapes because in the tribes they are doing it by hand so it wouldn't be perfect!
I then tried it again using an S shape, I like the S shape and think I may do this on my model.

Scarification using Colour

I then added colour to the scarification because I wanted to experiment with what it would look like. I used my supra colours, foundation brush and hilighter brush and blended it into the skin and on the string. I think this looks is good and makes to scarification look alot more realistic, also I got the idea of using black from the Beyonce Photoshoot I recently looked at.
I then added colour onto of the string to see what it would look like, I added gold at the bottom of the strong and red at the top. The gold was really hard to get out I used supracolour and I found it so hard to get on the brush and I don't think it looks very good, it doesn't stand out and i think it looks like I haven't covered the string in black. The red is abit better it was easy to onto the brush and easy to apply,  it does make the scarification look fresh but I think this could be taking it a step too far, from the controversy in the Victoria Secret show I think fresh cuts may be taking my idea for catwalk too far.

Different Materials

New Materials

Today I've gone out and bought some new materials to create scarification, I have already bought string, rice and dried onions but I wanted to buy something that would give me more of a rounded shape so I've gone out and bought popcorn and split peas. I am going to experiment with these later, the popcorn have a round shape all over where as the split peas have a flat shape on one side and round on the other which I think could be quite good to stick onto the skin.

Editorial Designs

Editorial Designs

I've looked back at all my research and looked back at the key points I made that I want to add into my Editorial Look. My main look is scarification so I have drawn up lots of different design patterns for my final look and then I am going to practice this look.

Design One

Here is my first design, you have to excuse the really bad photo, their all taken on my ipod which is bad quality.
This is my first practice design and i think it is really poor, I don't think it would make alot of impact and I think it would look much better if the scarification ran down the arms and up the neck. It is a good starting point and has started me off in the design process. The scarification would be made using; string and pva glue.

Design Two

Here is my second design, with this one I want to show a different type of scarification and with this one when I see it i think of pain. I think the slashes on the arm and especially the chest resemble pain. The chest one would be quite large to show a deep wound at the start but I would show it as it's risen and would have quite a large rise. I do prefer this one to Design one and think I shall practice this. For this design I would use string doubled up and pva glue or liquid latex.

Design Three
Here is my third design, I have taken some elements from design two. I liked the slashes on the arm and from design two but I have changed what will be on the chest in this design. I have got inspiration for the chest design from Aboriginal Art, I looked back at their patterns and have taken an idea from their. I took the idea of circular dotting. The centre of the dots would be made from a cluster of popcorn and then the little dots are individual popcorn. I need to make sure when I do this that the dots look realistic and look like it's in the skin.

Design Four
Here is my fourth design, I have added elements from design three and two. The two elements I have taken the scratches from design two and put them on the face and i have taken the circular shapes from design three and made them smaller and have applied them down the arms. I really like the V shape I have created on this image, the large V on the neck/chest does almost look like a necklace or accessory on this design. I also like and think I am going to carry this on that the made scarification is down the arms and that theirs is only a little bit on the face. I think that if their is lots on the face aswell this could look too much. I am going to draw more designs with lots on the arms and small design on the face.

Design Five
Back of design Five
Here is my fifth design, i have carried on the V shaping from design four. I do really like this design, I got my inspiration for using the star/flower pattern on the arms and face from my previous research(photo on my mood board). The pattern would go V then star shape and so on, I have also added a V shape on the chin and stars down the cheek. The V shape would be made out of string and the stars either out of rice or string.

Design Six
This design does look quite similar to the design above however I have adapted it by making the pattern on the chest larger to give more of an impact and I have also brought the design down to the hands aswell. I have added the star shape on the hand and also some small V shaping on the fingers. I also planning on bringing the design on the chest also on the top of the back. With this design on the face I have taken part of the design from template number five with the stars on the face. I want the face to be very simple yet beautiful because their is alot going on in the arms.

Editorial Moodboard

Editorial Moodboard

Here is my final mood board, again with this one it has taken me a while to get it right and for it to reflect the look I am going for. In my Editorial my main focus is scarification, as you can see I have added 3 images of different scarification, I want to show different types of patterns and how I was inspired by the patterns they have created. I have also added in some fashion images from my research that I love and that I want to incorporate elements from into my image. I have also added a photo of nails because I will need to think about nail art within my look and this photo has given me ideas. I have differed this mood board to the Catwalk one by adding different elements, I didn't want it to be the same as the catwalk and I feel it does have a different feel and look. Normally when I am creating a moodboard I would add lots of smaller images but I tried to go for a different style with this one and I think the photos that I have shown are necessary and are strong so lots of little images wouldn't of made such an impact.

Final Catwalk Photos

Final Catwalk Photos

Here are my final Two images for Catwalk, I am really pleased with my final look. I think it is executed really well and shows new techniques I have learnt. In this photo the techniques I have used are, using supra colour, french plaiting on the hair and adding props to the hair. After all my different designs and practices I am really glad I went with this one, it has alot of impact without having too much dots on the face. This look would work really well on the catwalk as it is a look that all makeup artists would be able to execute to a high standard. Same with the hair, the props would be made before hand and could be applied to every models hand and the crepe hair colour can be changed to suit the model. This look also reflects my research into the tribes I wanted to show with the dotting on the face and also the round ring in hair. I chose this accessory to use which I already had because i think it complements the look with the black beads and even though the silver heart is large it still doesn't take away from the hair and makeup. I made sure I applied foundation to the body as well so it matched the colour of the neck and face. The only thing I would change is making the hair more sleek as their are some wispy bits and I stuck on fake nails to my model which were black and white with patterns but you can't see them in the photo. Overall I am pleased it shows off new techniques I have learnt and shows the research I have undertaken.

Catwalk Practice Take Two

Practices

Revised face Chart Practices

Design Five

White and Black dots around the eye

Black and White under both eyes

Final Look.

Design Six

Added Dots under the Chin

Design Seven

Added white supra colour to the lips

Design Eight

Added Black to the lips.

I'm glad I did another practice as it was good to experiment with the different designs. I tried to practice with lots of different elements from my research such as patterns of the dots, dots down the chin and colour on the lips. I tried doing colour down the lips as I thought this would reflect my research from the the; Ta Moko tribe. My favourite design was design five, this is the strongest design and show my research and what I was aiming for from my research. I really like the design pattern and this design work so much better in black and white and is much more effective and bolder. I think this will defiantly give an impact on the catwalk and will make a statement without taking too much away from the designers clothes, which as a makeup artist I need to think about complementing the designer without taking away from the clothes. The other designs(1,2,3,4,6,7,8) would of been too much and would of defiantly take away from complementing the designers clothes and would not work on the catwalk. Design Five is what I am going to use as my final image.

Revised Charts

Face Charts Revised

From my previous practices I was not happy with the outcome and I know what I do and don't like. I have drawn some more face charts using the points I wrote on the previous post. I am going to practice these again to make sure they are what i am aiming before I start to shoot.

Design Five

Here is design five, you can't see in this photo but their is also white dots in between the black lines. I have taken the same pattern from design Three and from my previous practices. I really liked the pattern  from that design so I've used the same one but instead of the colours I've used just black and white. I have chosen this because my research into tribes they did use white dots on the face so I want to use that idea but to also add black to it. Hopefully this one will look better in practice.

Design Six

I have now added black dots down the nose to this design because from my research the tribes add dots to their most beautiful part of their face so I though adding dots down the nose would show this.

Design Seven

It's hard to see here but I've added white lips to this char to give it something different. I'll try this out in my practices.

Design Eight

With this deisgn I have changed the lips to black and also added dots with the chin, i will again try this out in practice and see how it turns out.
